IFM

A Northwest Ohio POTW was experiencing problems with effluent quality due to seasonal swings and organic slug loads. Industrial Fluid Management, Inc. developed a bioaugmentation program customized for this type of application.

Through addition of Munox XL, IFM's fast acting pseudomonas bacteria, ahead of the primary clarifier and fixed-film bacterial cultures dosed ahead of the trickling filters, the facility was able to reduce discharged levels of ammonia and also meet interim NPDES Permit limits during the construction phase of a newly designed wastewater treatment facility.

The Superintendent of this facility has written a testimonial to this approach with these products and has seen the positive trends over the last two years. Operators are now accustomed to increasing dosing during seasonal swings and organic slug loads from the area industries.

By consistently achieving lower ammonia levels and meeting interim NPDES limits, bioaugmentation has saved this municipality thousands of dollars in potential fines and penalties due to noncompliance during the construction phase of the new wastewater plant.

The municipality has also referred IFM to the problem industries within that city. IFM has subsequently assisted several of these facilities in reducing their BOD and COD in wastewaters, ultimately benefitting all parties.
